Archive for May, 2010

I looked forward to this session for quite some time. I love babies, and I love watching them dig into their cake. I feel special and greedy all at the same time for being able to witness it before anyone else. (except Mom) :) {W} had absolutely no issues digging right in. Cutest thing EVER! Mom chose to do the session a few weeks before his birthday so she could incorporate the pictures into his invitation and at the party. If you have a baby turning a year old soon, keep that in mind when planning his/her 1st year photo session.

His mom was my first ever maternity session on he was my first ever newborn session. :)

I cannot believe you are already a year old, Big Guy! Happy, happy upcoming birthday to you!

Here’s your sneakity-peek!

This is hard work walking in these boots…

Mom is very talented and made this hat for his session. You can check her site out at Preppy Papers.

Finally, the finale!

You can view {W’s} full session by going to my Showcased Session area.

I have an enormous appreciation for teachers and what they do for our future, a.k.a. our children. Some say teachers have such an easy job. Short hours, long vacations, etc. I don’t know of one teacher that didn’t take their work home. Plus, who said anything about teaching being just about teaching? Meetings like you wouldn’t imagine. Coupled with behavior issues, parent questions and the ever so tedious lesson planning. The list could go on and on. I’ve been there.

This is why I would like to start really showing my appreciation for the teachers out there. Starting in June, I would like to honor one teacher every other month. This teacher gets a full session and all of their images placed on a CD. I will be doing this for the months of June-August-October-December-February-April.  The months in between will be for people to help nominate a teacher.

I will be posting a link where you can go to fill out a form for your teacher nomination. Nominations end at the end of the month before the honoring month. (wow, that’s a mouthful) For instance, nominations will end May 31st for the teacher who will be honored in June. (this June’s nomination period will be very short) Then nominations for August will start July 1st and run through July 31st, so on and so forth.

I WILL accept self-nominations to start out with, but will probably do away with this in the future. So, yes, if you are currently a teacher, you can fill out the form for yourself.

Finally…

Who: All teachers (including MDO, Preschool, K-12)

What: The honored teacher will get a full session complete with images on a CD with a limited print release to allow them to do their own printing. This offer is only available to the teacher and his/her immediate family. It cannot be transferred from the teacher to someone else. It does count if the teacher would like to take pictures with his/her spouse, children and/or grandchildren.

When: Nominations will be taken in the months of May-July-Spetember-November-January-March

Teachers will be honored in June-August-October-December-February-April

Where: At a location of the teachers choice. I am more than happy to make selections as well.

Why: As Ace would say… “De-cause!” :)

You can nominate your teachers by filling out this FORM.

This bright and beautiful young lady contacted me to do her senior session not too long ago. She won it in the silent auction that I donated to for Bear Creek Little League. She has been the number one person to communicate with me about her session and I am extremely impressed with her maturity.

Graduations just around the corner, so hang in there a little while longer. Congratulation and good luck with all of your future ventures.

Enjoy your sneakity-peek!

An army has been formed and is growing quickly. Not the typical army you think of, but an army nonetheless. What are they fighting for? They (We) are fighting for a brave, courageous, sweet (the list goes on and on) little boy who is battling cancer. He was nearly 11 years old when they found out that a mysterious lump in his abdomen was actually a tumor, just a little over 2 months ago. He has since undergone surgery and started the long stressful treatments of radiation and chemotherapy.

Although I don’t personally know Griffin, I do know his mom. I used to teach at the school that Holly currently still teaches at. She is one of a kind and words cannot describe what an amazing person she is.

So, this journey they are on and my role in it is very bittersweet for me. I plan to continue on this path with them as they go through many roller coasters to overcome this. He is currently on a regimen to go in every 3 weeks for chemo. Staying in the hospital for 3 days one treatment and 5 days the next and so on and so forth for the next year or so along with radiation treatments.

Saturday I went to the hospital as Griffin was undergoing a 5-day stay in the hospital receiving chemo. I wanted to get in as soon as possible because he has started losing his hair.  He doesn’t have a ton to lose since he shaved his head weeks ago along with his mom and grandparents. I walked into the room to see Mom and Griffin decked out in their camo and “Griffin’s Army” gear.

You can follow Griffin’s journey through the FB group God is with Griffin. They are also having a walk for him on Monday, May 24th. If you would like more information about this, please email me at info@stephanieshirley.com.

Here are some of the pictures from our short visit, short because the little guy got pretty tired by the time I was leaving.

Here is “Beary” Watching over Griffin. Holly gave this to Griffin after he got out of surgery. He goes just about everywhere with him. Even when he goes in to get radiation treatments.

This little guy has a bigger version that actually goes to school and sits in for Griffin while he is out.

“Major” Mom

I have to say that I am loving the fact that I have been able to spend so much time with all of these babies lately. They are so soft and sweet. Plus, I actually love when they are awake, but pushing sleep because it is the one time I get to put down my camera and snuggle with these little miracles trying to get them to sleep.

I had the opportunity to meet Baby {A} on Saturday. She was such a little girl. We did things on her time, her way. She wanted absolutely nothing to do with sleeping, which ended up being perfect since I was able to grab some sweet shots of her with Mom and Dad.

Thank you for giving me the chance to photograph your sweet baby girl. She is such a doll. Enjoy your sneakity-peek!
