I hope that everyone had a wonderful summer, I know mine sure proved to be a busy one. At the end of school last year, I decided to honor teachers by hosting one every other month. You can read more about my “For the Teachers” promotion here. It took all the way until August for me to meet up with June’s winner.
She is a fantabulous teacher. I actually used to work with her when I taught at Copeland Elementary a couple of years ago. She was nominated by a parent of one of her students. Here’s what that parent had to say about her:
“Both my son and my daughter have had Mrs. {W} for kindergarten at Copeland Elementary. She is an amazing teacher that has left my children with a desire and love of learning. Most kids whine and moan about going to school and mine love it and I’m convinced it’s because she has provided a foundation of loving to learn early on. She gives so much of herself to each and every child and deserves to be “spotlighted” for the extraordinary teacher that she is.”
I decided to ask Ms. {W} a few questions about her life of teaching:
1. How long have you been teaching?
“This is my 22nd year! All in Kindergarten!”
2. When did you decide that you wanted to be a teacher?
“Started thinking about it in high school…began in Education at UT…changed to Communications my junior year…then finally decided teaching was where I needed to be!~”
3. Did you always picture yourself as a kindergarten teacher?
“NO…my certification was in 1st – 8th …I got to student teach in Kindergarten and fell in love with that grade level! I was hired on an emergency certificate while I got my Masters in Early Childhood!”
4. What is one of your favorite things about being a teacher?
“I love to get them from the start and take them as far as they can go…It is so rewarding to see those lightbulbs come on!!!”
5. Can you share one of your most memorable teaching moments?
“There are so many…it is mostly when the child knows nothing coming in to Kindergarten, then 1 day everything that I have taught them clicks, and they can read and write!”
6. What is one of the funniest things you have heard come out of a child’s mouth?
“While playing in the home center, a child was acting out a fight that he overheard his parents have. The little boy was telling the little girl what to say as if she was his wife. Apparently the husband had come home late after drinking with his friends. The little girl ended up throwing his food in the trash can (as he told her that was what happened) and told him he was sleeping on the couch! Oh…the things that we hear that happens at home!!!!”
Children really can be honest and are like little sponges, aren’t they? Lol! I REALLY appreciate what Ms. {W} does since my oldest started Kindergarten this year.
Good luck to you and all of your ventures this year and thank you for making such a small-scaled, but HUGE difference in these children’s lives.
I am now looking for October’s teacher. Please check out all of the information about “For the Teachers” and nominate that special teacher in you and your child’s life.
Here is a glimpse of our session.
Oh, and not to hijack her post, here is a picture of Aiden on his first day of Kindergarten.

Stephanie, I think this is such an awesome idea, and a wonderful thing you’re doing to honor hard-working teachers! They deserve it!
