I cannot express the feeling of adrenaline that starts pumping through me when I get a text from a client that labor may be in the works. It makes sleeping soundly nearly impossible because I just know that I could get the call to head in at any moment. This mama decided that with support of her husband and doula, Latina Baxter, that she would birth at home as long as possible before heading to the hospital since she was looking for a birth with very little intervention. By 11:30 am, labor had progressed a great deal and they felt the need to head in. They arrived around 12 pm and found that she was already 8 cm. She powered through contractions. Her normal doctor was not on call, so she got a wonderful doctor that was extremely supportive of her birth plan. Not often to you see such encouragement in a hospital setting. She checked on her often because she expected that the labor would progress quickly. After multiple position changes, she felt the need to relieve her bladder. The position caused some intense surges which made the nurse rush her to the bed. She was quickly placed into a hands and knees position with the back of the bed elevated. Her doula was providing counter-pressure on her back when she felt a pop and realized her water had broken. The doctor was in in a flash and allowed her to remain on her hands and knees in order to deliver her beautiful baby boy.

I have to say that this was the first time shooting a birth at this hospital and the experience was awesome. Every person that came in contact with mom while I was there was supportive and encouraging. Congrats to Mom, Dad and Big Sister! Happy birthday, Sweet Boy!
