Houston Home Birth Photographer | Kinsley

I get asked all of the time what it's like being a birth photographer. Or better yet, how "crazy" it is to attend a home birth. I personally had 3 births, at 3 separate hospitals with 3 separate doctors. My perspective about birth has definitely changed since venturing into the birth community. So, to answer the question of what it's like to be a birth photographer, it's absolutely amazing. That's actually an understatement. There really are no words for being able to witness new life being born into the arms of the parents that have been anxiously waiting to meet their child. Listening to a baby cry for the first time takes my breath away every. single. time. So, what is it like to witness a birth at home? I guess it's easier to just explain what my perspective is. A women gets to choose how and where she labors, in the comfort of her own home, not attached to anything, at the rate that her body chooses to labor, (did I mention in the comfort of her own home?) with a midwife who is constantly (personally) monitoring her progress (not walking in the minute that the baby is ready to deliver) and in the comfort of her own home (or did I mention that already?). I write this not because I am against hospital births, quite the contrary. I write this because women should be able to choose how and where they want to deliver, and do so without anyone judging them for making that choice. Everyone is entitled to their own birth story. That's the most important thing to me as a birth photographer... to know what your vision is for your birth session and be there to capture it. YOUR story. :)

I have to say that I have seen many births on all different types of spectrums. No births are the same. This birth was very different from any other that I have attended. As I have been piecing her story together I can't help but be amazed at how strong this mom was. We had quite a few laughs about some of the commentary during her labor. At 19, there is no way I would have had the strength to endure the pain of labor and delivery like this mom did, much less be doing it for the 2nd time. No possible way. Incredible.

Happy birthday sweet Kinsley Lynn. I was Blessed to be there to see you venture into our world and have enjoyed all of the pictures of you since, adorned with ginormous bows. :)
