A Hospital Birth Film Story at Memorial Hermann Memorial City

The Birth Film of Cohen

Mom and Dad reached out to me a couple of months before their due date knowing that they wanted to relive their beautiful birth story through that way of a birth film. Still images are beautiful and amazing, but there is just something about seeing the movement and hearing the sounds of the moment your family grew.

At just 39 weeks 4 days, Mom texted me at 1:22 am saying they were heading into the hospital as contractions were getting more frequent. By morning, Mom had received an epidural and was sitting at 2 cm. They decided to start pitocin and break her water to help labor along. We were definitely having a baby today! By 11:30 am Mom texted that she was 6 cm, so I headed in to join them for the remainder of their labor.

As I arrived, Mom and Dad built a welcoming room with LED candles and pixie lights. The room was small, but warm. We all watched as she rested and went through the normal emotions of active labor and nearing the moment of becoming a mom. By early evening, Mom was showing signs of developing an infection with a low-grade fever and baby having signs of an elevated heart rate. Shortly thereafter it was time to bring her baby earthside. She worked beautifully and Cohen was placed into her arms. Although his delivery went well, Cohen was showing signs of needing to be monitored in the NICU paired with the fact that Mom developed a low-grade fever before delivery. Luckily, he had a short stay in the NICU and the whole family went home just a couple days after delivery.
